From time to time, you might want to backup your website. Ideally, the web site IS your backup. But if you are one of those people who either work directly on the live site, or are just plain paranoid, you'll want to have a backup.
Here's how you can backup your site by using the WebShell program that comes with your hosting package.
Log into your control panel and launch the WebShell/File Manager program. Check the files or directories you want to back up. Click the "Archive" button at the top of the window. On the right side of the window the display will change to prompt you for a file name. Set the name, and then click the "Create" button. Depending on how much stuff you have to backup, this may take a while.
Once the files have been packaged up, you will be prompted to download them. It's all pretty simple really.
However, for those of you who want a more automated process. I would strongly recommend you try Handy Backup. For as little as $30 you can get a program that will backup files from an FTP site to your local drive, backup your ODBC compliant (remote) database to a file as well as allowing you to backup local files to an FTP location.
